THE TECHRASTA FIELD GUIDE

A clearer tech job search in India.

Practical steps for finding openings and deciding where to spend your effort.

Start with your skills and constraints

Write down the tools you have used, projects you can explain, responsibilities you have held, and the evidence for each. Separately note your location, work-mode preference, salary expectations, notice period, and the experience level you can support. These details help you assess openings without relying on the title alone.

Search by more than one title

The same work can appear under different titles. A Python backend role might be listed as Backend Developer, Software Engineer, or API Developer. Combine a few relevant titles with the skills you want to use. Keep a separate search for a new direction so aspirational openings do not disappear from your research.

Check the original opening

When you find a listing on a job platform, look for the employer’s application page where available. Check that the position is still open, confirm the location and requirements, and record the source. Use the company, role, location, and requisition ID to spot duplicates.

Separate missing skills from missing evidence

If an opening requests Docker and your résumé does not mention it, ask whether you have used Docker and can demonstrate it. You may need to improve the evidence, learn the skill, or both. Do not add a keyword unless it truthfully represents your ability.

Compare patterns across openings

Review a small set of relevant openings and note recurring requirements. A preferred tool appearing once deserves a different level of attention from an essential skill requested repeatedly. Choose a practical project that demonstrates a recurring gap instead of collecting unrelated certificates.

Keep a single application record

Track the employer, original link, date, résumé version, screening answers, and next action. Distinguish an application that was prepared from one that was actually submitted. Save confirmations where the employer provides them.

Use automation after you choose the right roles

Application tools can help reduce repeated form-filling, but you should still review the role and the answers that represent you. Keep track of what was actually submitted. Read our guide to automatic job apply in India for a practical approval-and-tracking workflow.
