Shellaberger Tennis Center in Santa Fe has a new owner | Tech Rasta

November 1 — It’s a new era for the Shellaberger Tennis Center in Santa Fe.

The 8.6-acre property was purchased by PE Real Estate Holdings, LLC – a real estate investment firm with offices in New York.

According to records, the purchase closed on October 31 and marks the company’s first acquisition in Santa Fe.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to acquire such an important property in such an important city,” said Phillip Gesue, Principal of PE Real Estate Holdings. “We believe in good environmental stewardship and will strive to make a positive contribution to the redevelopment of Midtown and the Santa Fe metropolitan area.”

The property houses an approximately 65,000 square foot indoor tennis center and excess vacant land.

It is also a few private parcels adjacent to the Midtown Santa Fe campus. Although not part of the city’s rezoning and master plan, the buyer plans to align any future development on the site with the vision from the city to Midtown.

Gesue said plans for the site were not yet finalized and he was exploring various potential uses.

The Shellaberger Tennis Center was originally built as a public tennis club in 2002 with funding from Rosemarie Shellaberger, a Santa Fean who left a $6 million endowment to promote tennis at the University of art and design in Santa Fe and in the Santa Fe community.

The facility’s stadium ground was later constructed through the philanthropy of International Tennis Hall of Famer Gladys Heldman.

After initially operating as a non-profit facility, the property was later sold to its current owners who have operated it as a successful private tennis club for the past 11 years.

The sale of the property was negotiated by Dave Gurule of Barker Realty.
