Francesca Curmi continued her rise in international tennis by yesterday becoming the first Maltese player to enter the Women Tennis Association’s Top Pro 500 rankings, ranking 490.

Moreover, she also broke into the top 100 of the U21 rankings.

Training full-time in Barcelona, under coach Albert Portas, Curmi’s rise in 2022 has been truly remarkable. She has improved her professional world ranking by 675 places since January, starting at number 1,167 and ending in October at 490 – one of the fastest climbers on the women’s professional circuit.

This year so far, she has played 46 international matches with a win/loss ratio of almost 70%.

Curmi has written Maltese tennis history more than once this year by being the first Maltese player to win professional singles and doubles tournaments.
