Realme GT Neo 2 review | Tech Rasta

The Realme GT Neo 2 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 5G chipset with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

Considering its price, the Realme GT Neo 2 is a hit phone – 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage (around $570) for £429. With its powerful features, long battery life, 5G support and two SIM card slots, the Realme GT Neo 2 should appeal to smartphone buyers looking for a flagship phone at a price well below four-figure flagships.

My review unit is a unique and somewhat shocking lime green shade. However, as of this writing, it’s only available online in the UK, and the blue and black are more composed.

  • high-end chipset
  • 120Hz AMOLED screen
  • Good battery life and 65W fast charging

  • No dust/waterproof IP rating
  • No MicroSD slot or 3.5mm headphone jack
  • no wireless charging

The Realme GT Neo 2’s 6.62-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen is a highlight.

Housed in a plastic chassis, the 6.62-inch AMOLED screen measures 75.8mm wide, 162.9mm deep, 8.6m thick and weighs 200g (2.98in x 6.41in x 0.35in, 7.05oz). It feels like a serious piece of kit, despite not having an IP rating for dust/water resistance. The screen bezels are very small, and the hole-punch selfie camera in the upper left corner of the screen doesn’t distract from its usability. Realme claims a screen-to-body ratio of 92.6%, although we calculated it to be 85.9%.

The backplate is pierced by a sizable camera bump that sticks out noticeably and makes the phone jiggle on the table when the screen is touched. It’s not uncommon these days, but it’s still a thrill.

The FHD+ (1080 x 2400, 397.5ppi) AMOLED screen is fantastic – bright and sharp, and the colors really “pop”. A 120Hz refresh rate isn’t as rare as it used to be, but it’s still nice to see on a phone at this price point. The 600Hz touch sampling rate is a plus, and the peak brightness of 1300 nits is impressive. Stereo speakers also produce very good quality sound. Gamers will love this setup, but so will anyone looking for high-quality visuals and audio.

The Realme GT Neo 2 is available in blue, black and a unique green.

The triple rear camera system (64MP, 8MP, 2MP) protrudes noticeably from the back panel.

At the time of writing, Realme has opted for Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 870 5G chipset in the UK, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (not expandable via MicroSD). My lime green review unit has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There’s no shortage of performance here, suitable for smartphones geared towards “tech enthusiasts and power users.”

The Realme GT Neo 2 features a 16MP f/2.5 wide-angle (78°) selfie camera, and the rear camera array includes a 64MP f/1.8 wide-angle (78.6°), 8MP f/2.3 ultra-wide (119°) and a 2MP macro camera. I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to test these cameras, but based on some point-and-shoot cameras, the GT Neo 2 seems to provide good enough images for everyday use.

The Realme GT Neo 2 with its 5000mAh battery gave me two days of normal mainstream use. Sure, gamers will push the battery harder, but even then, a day between charges could be within reach. Realme offers a 65W SuperDart charger, which it claims will charge the battery from zero to full in 36 minutes. Of course I found the charging to be quick: once, the battery was at 36%, I charged it for 15 minutes, and it went up to 79%.

The Realme GT Neo 2 runs Android 11 with Realme UI 2.0 user interface overlay. Like Realme, there are many bundles, including social media and online shopping apps. You can uninstall these apps if you don’t need them.

The Realme GT Neo 2 offers some impressive specs at a competitive price. While its main appeal may lie with gamers, the phone’s good battery life, excellent AMOLED screen, and high-quality speakers also make it suitable for more mainstream use cases. If you want your phone to look different, the lime green option does just that.
