Novak Djokovic played wheelchair tennis in Tel Aviv on Monday. The world number 7 took on Israeli tennis player Elay Chayot, the video of which was shared on the tournament’s official Twitter account on Sunday. Djokovic sat in the wheelchair, chatted with Chayot before giving him a fight on the court. After the match was over, the two players posed for photos and patted each other on the back. Notably, the action took place ahead of Djokovic’s final match in the men’s singles event of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic defeated Marin Cilic in the Tel Aviv Open final. The Serbian tennis star thus won his third title of the year 2022 and the 89th of his career. Djokovic, 35, triumphed 6-3, 6-4 to add the Israeli hard-court trophy to victories on clay in Rome and on grass at Wimbledon this season.

It was Djokovic’s 19th victory over Cilic in 21 encounters in a rivalry dating back to 2008.

Djokovic was playing his first singles tournament since winning a seventh Wimbledon crown and a 21st Grand Slam title in July.

He was banned from the US Open and the entire North American swing due to his refusal to get vaccinated before returning for Roger Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup team event in London the month last.

Djokovic’s win on Sunday came in his 127th career final. It also allowed him to become the first man this year to win titles on all three different surfaces in the sport.

Djokovic now heads to the ATP tournament in Astana where world number one and US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz takes the top seed.
