With the World Cup starting, the shuttle bus from Dubai to Doha is in full swing. It is designed to transport thousands of fans to the event, due to the shortage of hotels in Qatar. Turn on November 23at the time of writing, there are 48 flights departing and more than 10,000 seats being sold.
Some 33 services are operated by flydubai and 15 by Qatar Airways. Only six are from Dubai International (the main airport), while 42 are from Dubai Al Maktoum. In Qatar, 15 flights go to Doha Hamad (the main airport), 33 to Doha International, which reopened commercial flights for the World Cup. Big numbers, big event.
Dubai-Doha: usually six daily
Analyzing Cirium’s schedules shows that the previous record, held in late 2016 and early 2017, was 39 daily. This was completely normal. In contrast, only six daily flights now normal to work between two cities; the route has not yet been restored due to the Qatari blockade which ceased in early 2021.
Six daily services were only available from Dubai International, and none from Dubai Al Maktoum. The flights were evenly distributed: three daily by flydubai and Qatar Airways.
That changed on November 21 (40 each day), the day after the World Cup began, with 48 flights scheduled to fly on nine separate days. Cirium’s schedules show that it will peak at 49 hours each day on December 1st and 2nd before slowly decreasing to 6 hours each day from December 23rd.
