ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Garrett Little, Sequim boys tennis | Tech Rasta

Garrett Little, Sequim Tennis

Sequim’s Garrett Little will have to wait a few months to make some noise at the state’s 2A Men’s Tennis Tournament, but based on his performance so far in 2022, he’s likely to make a lot of noise at the tennis center in the University of Washington.

Little won the West Central 2/3 tennis tournament this weekend in Bremerton. He won his first two matches in straight sets, then advanced to the semi-finals due to a forfeit by his opponent, putting him in the championship match against Jack Wang of Sammamish.

This time Little had to fight to win. He won his first set in a 7-5 tiebreaker, lost his second 6-4, but then dominated the third set 6-1 to win the district title.

Little finished third at the district last year and then finished third at the state meet held in May. Both the boys’ and girls’ state tennis championships are held in the spring, so Little will have until May 2023 to train and improve for the state tournament.

Port Angeles’ Reef Gelder, who beat Little for the Olympic League 2A championship, will join rival Sequim in the state as the No. 3 seed in the district.

The Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
